Dear Families and Friends of the Student Services Department,
Once again a summer flew by and we are ready and excited to open our school doors to your children.† I hope you all had a wonderful summer and enjoyed the hot and sunny days!

Iím excited to be starting my first year in the Cohasset Public Schools and I look forward to meeting you and your children and over the 2014-2015 school year.† There have been some changes in the Student Services Department over the summer.† We welcome Anna Green as the Team Chairperson at Cohasset Middle High School and Laurie Dolan as the Team Chairperson at Osgood and Deer Hill Schools.† At the middle school level, Jennifer Wiescinski has been hired as our language based special education teacher.†† At the Deer Hill School, Kerri Ann Foley has moved from 5th grade to 4th grade.† We welcome Julie Bradford to Cohasset and she will be the 5th grade special education teacher. †We are also excited to welcome Indigo Young to Deer Hill School as the speech language therapist.† Jacqueline Potter has joined Cohasset as the Districtís Board Certified Behavior Analyst

Please visit www.CohassetSEPAC.org for information about The Cohasset Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC).† The SEPAC has been an important resource to many families in Cohasset and also to my department in the role of school and family liaison.† The Cohasset SEPAC (Special Education Parents Advisory Council) developed a comprehensive schedule of Parent Information Nights for the 2014-2015 school year. Continuing in their mission to foster knowledge, understanding and communication between parents, school, medical professionals, and community, this active and supportive volunteer group has a variety of resources and opportunities to help new and informed parents. The calendar of events is located on the SEPAC webpage. All are encouraged to attend!

We are continuing to use esped to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This online database system will give us access to Standard Based Goals and Objectives, Rich Text Editor and Language Translation Services, all of which will provide increased security, enhanced compliance, and efficiency within our work. We ask for your patience as we integrate the many benefits to this new program. In the coming months, we will also launch a Parent Portal, giving parents secure access to their studentís Special Education file. Online document sharing will afford quicker response time and efficiency in parent notifications, while helping us decrease our dependency on paper.

One final, friendly reminder: Please return any outstanding paperwork to the Office of Student Services prior to the start of school. We are not able to implement any changes to IEP services and/or placements without your consenting signature. Should you have questions or concerns about your individual student, please contact my office directly.

I look forward to this new school year and to working collaboratively with parents and staff as we strive to achieve a common goal of ensuring a positive school experience for all our students.† Best wishes for a smooth beginning!† Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 781-383-6104.

Sincerely,

Mary Buchanan
Director of Student Services
